USDA Recommends

The new USDA Food Guidelines for Americans, released on January 12, 2005, take a fresh look at the famous Food Guide Pyramid, the icon of food and nutrition education for a generation. In the midst of the ever-evolving food and nutrition landscape – where diet fads change with the seasons – the new guidelines emphasize the importance of caloric balance, moderation and exercise. In addition, the new Guidelines underscore the need for Americans to consume more whole grains – three ounces a day, on average – three times the single serving most people consume today. We invite you to review the Guidelines in their entirety.
